In August, we’re serving up Fruits & Roots, a Columbus coffee roaster founded in 2020 specializing in approachable, interesting coffees drawing from fruity notes. This month, their roasts are the Nicaragua Reds and Jasmine Honey.

Here are some words from Nicky, co-founder: “We’ve grown into a commercial roastery on the east side of Columbus, serving customers across the city through wholesale partnerships, local delivery, nationwide shipping, and our mobile coffee cart.

At our core, we believe coffee and tea should feel both high quality and welcoming. Whether someone is brewing at home, visiting one of our partner shops, or being served from our cart at an event, our goal is the same: to offer drinks that are carefully sourced, intentionally roasted, and worth sharing.”

Why Coffee Is Communal For Fruits and Roots

“Coffee is deeply communal. It creates space for conversation and channels passion and creativity. I don’t know of any other agricultural product where you can feel connected to the whole process the way you can with coffee. From the farm and the families who cultivate the land and harvest it, to the roaster who selects the coffee, profiles it, and delivers it, all the way to the person who gets to enjoy it.

When you zoom in on the local side of coffee, you find that people genuinely love to talk about it. Coffee business owners link arms, coffee enthusiasts chat at the counter, coffee novices ask for advice, and everyone in between shares their insight and love for the craft. The shared love creates bonds and commonalty, it’s very transcendent, and a joy to witness.”
