Best Coffee Shops in Columbus, Proper
Royal Flamingo

FAMOUS FOR: Award-winning coffee, creative specialty drinks
As an Ohio Coffee Club partner, we can confirm that this is some of the best coffee you can find in capitol city. Royal Flamingo roast their own beans that have picked up awards at international coffee competitions, and they also hold the recent distinction of being named #2 best independent coffee shop in the country from USA Today!
Their coffee shop decor is cozy and natural: lots of indoor plants and natural wood, comfy seating, and on-brand colored coffee mugs and drinks. Not really a surprise they’re rated so highly!
Some of the standout drinks on their recent summer menu include the salted watermelon espresso tonic (served with a slice of watermelon on top no less) and the cherry lightning latte. A mouthful to say, but your mouth will be grateful for these delectable flavors.
Jennings Java

FAMOUS FOR: Bottled cold brew, Cereal Killer
Another Ohio Coffee Club partner, Jennings Java are one of the best coffee roasters in Columbus, so it only makes sense that they serve up fresh, perfectly dialed-in coffee in their shop at Merion Village.
They have 6 different cold brews on tap! 6! As well as a range of blends and single origins that draw flavors from unique regions they source from such as Myanmar and Thailand. ‘The Bear’ is a highly touted banana bread latte cold brew creation, as well as the wonderfully named ‘Cereal Killer.’
The cafe itself is modern, spacious and chic. And, given their popularity, usually popping!
Tertulia

FAMOUS FOR: European cafe vibes, Basque cheesecake
Tertulia (Spanish for “gathering and conversation”) brings European café culture to the Short North, with Spanish-style coffee, cortados, and fresh pastries from their in-house LEH Bakery.
Owner Almu Vallejo designed it as a space to slow down and catch up with friends. With its warm oak, midnight blue, and soft gold aesthetic I’d say he’s accomplished this! The Burnt Basque Cheesecake and Don Pedro cortado are some of their most famous menu items.
Tulip Cafe

FAMOUS FOR: Turkish coffee
Turkish coffee is notorious for being STRONG, and Tulip Cafe is one of Columbus’s few spots where you can find this authentic brewing style.
Run by co-owners Hatice Kucuker and Hanife Evliyaoglu, who started out at farmers markets before opening their storefront. It’s known for handmade manti (Turkish dumplings), layered cheese borek, Turkish coffee, and baklava, all made from scratch using recipes passed down from generation to generation. The recently expanded space leans into tulip decor and a pink color scheme, with adorable pink banquette seating.
Brioso

FAMOUS FOR: Fresh roasted beans, local flavors
Brioso roast their own beans, use milk from Hartzler dairies, and their cold brew is supplied by the famous BootLegg Extracts. Safe to say, they’re a local coffee shop that prioritizes local sourcing, which is actually kind of rare, weirdly enough.
I love the dark ambience of their cafe, which leans more toward modern minimalist in terms of style and design. Obviously, any espresso drink or cold brew from them is going to be the preferred choice.
Barrel and Bloom

Barrel and Bloom is a classic coffeehouse-to-taproom concept founded by Endeavor Brewing & Spirits. Set in the Linworth community with vaulted ceilings and natural light, it’s praised for smooth, well-balanced espresso drinks alongside a rotating beer lineup. The space has quickly become famous for book clubs, meetups, and casual hangs that stretch from morning coffee into evening drinks.
The Light Meeting House

Opened in 2025 by partners Rick Smith and Prudence Kelly in the Olde Towne East/Franklin Park area, The Light Meeting House has quickly become a neighborhood darling. Reviewers consistently call out the owners’ warmth and hospitality, cozy holiday decor, and a great outdoor patio.
Their Specialty drinks include the likes of their Dubai mocha matcha latte and caramel macchiato with cold foam, alongside freshly baked bagels and pastries.
Good Energy Cafe

Good Energy Cafe is a woman and LGBTQ+-owned plant-based coffee shop that recently relocated from Clintonville into Franklinton’s Idea Foundry. You can find insanely good coffee creations here such as their Snickerdoodle Chai Latte and Cookie Butter Iced Latte
The vibe here is warm and welcoming, with a mission-driven focus on creating a safe, inclusive space alongside genuinely great plant-based coffee and snacks.
One Line Coffee

Their cafe in the Short North is a modern space with beautiful wooden floors, perfect for a work from the cafe vibe or meeting a friend. They even offer their own weekend brewing workshops!
One Line have been an emerging name in the Columbus coffee roaster scene of late, with intriguing roast profiles sourced from regions like Papua New Guinea. As with other shops that roast their own beans, expect maximum flavor in every cup.

FAMOUS FOR: Creative coffee infusions
Most people who’ve been here jump for joy at the variety of coffee drinks on offer. Some of their infusions this past summer consisted of toasted coconut, rocket flower, hibiscus and peach!
Importantly, Joy Local roast their own beans so you can be sure you’re getting the best flavor whenever you stop in here. Their Instagram is also full of great content including new drinks and latte art showdowns.

Vinyl Coffee

FAMOUS FOR: Roasting for your rhythm, coffee & waffles
Vinyl Coffee brings a “community through good coffee, eats, and music” vibe to downtown Washington Court House, complete with record-shop décor and a hand-painted “Vinyl Coffee” banner. I love the look of this third space: it’s not overly brightly lit like minimalist shops and has a real warmth to it with spacious wooden mid-century furniture and lots of indoor plants.
The shop leans into its name with music playing throughout and a rotating menu that keeps things interesting for repeat visitors. Their waffles look absolutely delightful, too!
Sweet Aromas

FAMOUS FOR: Fresh baked pastries, vintage decor
A “Best of Logan County” winner, Sweet Aromas is a Bellefontaine mainstay that creates good specialty coffee to go alongside homemade pastries.
The shop itself has a quaint, vintage vibe with wooden flooring and decorative chairs and tables. In terms of drinks, the frozen Salty Turtle latte is an eye-turning concoction and a staff favorite. They use Hemisphere coffee beans.
The Hive Coffee & Cafe

FAMOUS FOR: Cinnamon rolls, board games and books
Recently rebranded from Basic Biscuits, Kindness & Coffee, The Hive is known for its scratch-made mini buttermilk biscuits, biscuit breakfast sliders, and sausage gravy.
Recently, they added some games and books to the shop for you to play or read, and in general it’s full of cozy vibes. The cinnamon roll is quite the showstopper! It’s a beloved corner spot in Grandview’s walkable business district, founded by an owner who left law practice to pursue baking.
The Coffee Vault

FAMOUS FOR: Being located in an old bank!
The Coffee Vault operates out of the historic 1906 Galena Bank building, giving it a genuinely unique architectural backdrop for a boutique coffeehouse. Yes, an old bank!
The family-owned cafe is known for specialty coffee, frozen drinks, oversized two-handed mugs, and standout latte art, with a fireplace and expansive, light-filled seating area downstairs. The space doubles as an event venue after hours, hosting intimate gatherings inside the former bank.
East African Coffee House

FAMOUS FOR: Interesting and different roast profiles
Probably one of the more interesting coffee houses in all of Columbus, as their name suggests, the East African Coffee House makes coffee with beans sourced from countries in this region. Places like Somalia are not one of the “regular” bean-importing countries when it comes to US coffee, so you can find a different kind of flavor profile when you stop in here for a brew.
The Somali Shaah is basically their version of a chai latte and is one of their most popular drinks. The Somali Qahwah is one of their most unique pours: brewed from coffee husks for a rare, eco-friendly cup of traditional Somalian coffee.
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee

FAMOUS FOR: Employment opportunities for disabled individuals
Bitty & Beau’s is an inclusive-employment movement, proudly employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Upper Arlington location marked the brand’s first Ohio shop, and they’ve gone on to achieve a 4.9-star reputation for exceptional coffee and a welcoming atmosphere.
Menu favorites include iced dirty chai and frappes, and the mission resonates deeply with the community it serves. This is a very similar mission to Georgette’s, from Maumee, OH and they should be commended for this.
Pick’em Up Joe Coffee

FAMOUS FOR: Freshly roasted beans
Pick’em Up Joe roasts its own beans and makes its own syrups in-house, and is best known for unique cinnamon roll flavors, affogatos, and kolaches (Czech-style filled pastries).
Cinnamon Roll Saturdays are a local tradition, and the Grove City location joined an original Commercial Point shop with nearly 100 five-star reviews. Customers consistently praise the warm service and customizable breakfast sandwiches.
Lisa’s Sweet Shoppe
Their famous specialty drinks are the Sweet Shoppe Mocha and Frozen Buckeye. Just expect these to be served like dessert coffees with whip cream and sauce on top!
The shop has a delightful habit of celebrating milestones like giving out free cupcakes on its anniversary! They have a solid rotation of seasonal drinks, and the bakery/pastry case is obviously a big draw to pair with items from the coffee menu.
Rollhouse Coffee

FAMOUS FOR: Mobile coffee van
Formerly known as Rise & Roll, this Grove City family business built its reputation at the local farmers market, where regulars now make weekly trips for cold brew and rotating cinnamon roll flavors. It’s a mobile “bakery on wheels”, self-described as “where sweet meets bold”, combining handcrafted espresso with warm, gooey cinnamon rolls. The shop is a genuine family passion project, run with plant-based butter and a lot of heart.
